Romantic and Rainy Intimate Acadia Lakeside Wedding

Sam and Ryan wanted a location on the water that also would be easy for their relatives to walk to without going over roots and rocks. Originally they were thinking of Lamoine State Park Beach since it was near where they were staying, but we suggested they check out one of the lakes in Acadia as another option. They loved the views and feel of the Acadian lake, as well as the short (under 100 feet!) walk from parking to the ceremony spot over level ground.

As their day approached, the rain in the forecast seemed to converge on their timing. We asked them if they wanted to adjust the timing or date, but with all the plans in place they were ready to go - rain or shine! Brian brought some extra clear umbrellas, and we shifted the plan to meet at the Carriage Road parking lot so we could take advantage of the bridge for some dry group photos before moving along to the boat launch for the ceremony.

While the rest of the party drove to the boat launch, a small contingent walked the carriage road along the shore and we were able to use the overcast skies to create some intimate portraits of the couple.

Wind and rain picked up during the ceremony, but Sam and Ryan never lost their smiles! There was so much joy and love between the two of them and their family and friends who were there to support and celebrate their marriage that I don’t know if anyone even noticed the weather.

After the ceremony we did a few quick family portraits, then the rest of the wedding party headed for the cars as Sam, Ryan, and Brian moved along the shore to create some more intimate wedding portraits in the beautiful and even overcast light.

June is lupine season in Acadia, and we were lucky to have plenty of them blooming along the shoreline. A bonus of fog and overcast days is that it accentuates the colors of the lupines and grasses so beautifully.

The flat and wide Acadia carriage roads are perfect for wedding portraits, especially on days when the rocks and roots on the trails might be too slick for safe footing.

The carriage road bridges are not only beautiful but also perfect rain shelters on overcast days, and we love the natural framing possibilities of these gorgeous stone structures.
